Is your interior boring you? Are you constantly amazed at the interior design of your friends' homes and disappointed when you go back to yours? Our homes can get stuck in a rut just as easily as we can. If you haven't updated your home in at least a year, it could very well be time for a change.

You don't need a complete overhaul of interior design to get your home out of a rut. Sometimes even the simplest things will do. So in order to make you aware of these, we gathered a few ideas to try out. From minor changes that cost no money to larger projects that require a little more thought, this list has a little something for everyone and applies to each room in the home.

Enjoy!

1. Decals

Have a plain white wall you're looking to decorate? Wall decals are the perfect solution. Stick them on to match your home's decor, and when you get sick of them, they peel right off. It's the perfect design element for the indecisive!

2. Exciting lighting

A quick and easy way to add dimension and character to any room is by adding fun lighting. Icicle lights in different colours bring magic to your room.

3. Rearrange your furniture

Sometimes all your room needs to feel refreshed is a bit of Feng Shui. You'll be surprised at the new energy your space will have once you move a few items around.

4. Look to the ceiling

If your home is in a design rut and you can't think of anything to improve on the ground, then just look up. Ceilings are a largely untapped area as far as interior design is concerned, so you should take full advantage of yours. Go bold like the pattern we see here, or add some simple mouldings.

5. Room dividers

Is your space a little too open? Then consider a room divider. Choose from decorative curtain dividers, multifold partitions, or even bookshelves.

6. Add an area rug

Sometimes a simple rug can make all the difference to a room's atmosphere. It will make it softer, more inviting, and unify the theme of your room.

7. Reupholster your furniture

If your sofa is looking dull or you just want some new colour, reupholster your furniture. You can do this the hard way, or the easy way with a slipcover.

8. Use your walls to showcase your memories

If you feel like your home is in a rut, maybe you need to add more personal elements to your space. AFter all, it's these items that make a house a home. Try framing and hanging things like the album artwork of your favourite band, or postcards from your travels. These items tell your guests a lot about you and are great conversation starters.

9. Out-of-the-ordinary storage

Interestingly enough, rustic-style ladders like this are great accents and storage options that are rising in popularity. You can hang things like purses or scarves here, or even decorative items for a new and interesting look.

10. Add more seating options

Our last piece of advice is to mix up your seating options. Chairs are great, but what if you could get a comfy beanbag chair for your guests? Or wicker seats like these? They add so much more dimension to a room than a simple stool.
