Everyone loves cooking in the kitchen but absolutely hate cleaning up the mess. Do you want to learn to cut onions without crying or reheat leftover pizza without making the base soggy? These are small problems but can stop the flow of your work and increase anxiety.
Here are five creative solutions that will help you solve kitchen problems using minimum efforts:
When the skillet is still hot, add a mix of salt and hot water to cover the base and scrape out the food stuck to it. Heat the skillet to dry it completely. After 15 minutes add a thin layer of oil on the pan’s base and use a cloth to polish it until there’s no more oil.
Before chopping the onion keep in refrigerator for five minutes or soak it in ice water or boiling water for 30 seconds. It changes the onion’s chemistry as the processing breaks down sulphuric acid that makes you cry. Another way is to keep a piece of bread in your mouth while chopping the onions.
To prevent warping of any wood cutting board, wipe it clean with hot water after every use. Once in a month, scrub the board with baking powder and half a lemon. Wipe the board clean and once dry, apply your favorite essential oil to it. You can use the same mix to regularly clean greasy kitchen window walls.
Keep a glass of water along with the leftover pizza in the microwave for 30 seconds. The water softens the dry one-day old pizza base and makes it crisp at the same it.
Wet a muslin towel and squeeze out the excess water into the kitchen sink. Keep the bread in a bowl or plate and cover it with a muslin cloth but keep part of it open. Microwave it on low power for around 50 seconds, so that the heat isn’t too high to make it soggy or too low to not make any difference. The bread will come out looking as if it was just baked.
