This 500-square-feet contemporary apartment in Sham Tseng, Hong Kong is home for a pair of grown-up sister and brother. Designer Chris Lam of Zip Interiors rearranged the enclosed kitchen into an open space to seamlessly link the living room whilst keeping the two bedrooms in original setting, not only to deliver a common space for activity but also maintain privacy to the owners.

White spreads throughout the cozy home with sophisticated details of black stainless steel and gray wooden veneer to create a minimal, comfortable living place to relax, especially for the male owner who writes to release stress from his finance-related work.

The rectangular living room gives an extended airy common room with the open kitchen. A large portion of white in the wooden-veneer full-height cabinet set near entrance, piano-finish kitchen cabinets, bar table’ s marble top, ceiling, walls and lovely furnishings makes a contrast with the dark gray feature wall and TV wall. Light brown tiles with wood patterns offset the coldness of the strong contrast and fill the minimal house with harmony and warmth.

The TV wall in dark gray rich-texture tiles gives an explicit feature, connecting with the dark lower part of the bar table. The irregular edges of the tailored bar table and coffee tables enrich the space. A black steel magnet wall remarks the everyday life of the sister and brother.

A large piece of feature wall in gray wooden veneer and black steel stripes is designed to hide the entrances of the two bedrooms. A four-foot bed is placed I the middle of the gray-and-white master bedroom, along with a working desk on window bay and a 2.5-foot full-height book cabinet on one side, and a five-foot closet on the other. A TV hangs on the wall at the bed end, utilizing every inch.

Chris played a smart trick for the smaller bedroom. With the use of a sliding door, the entrance shifted right so as to accommodate a four-feet closet and book cabinet, a 3.5-feet bed and a 3-feet working desk with sufficient spare space.

The bathroom paves with gray rock-pattern tiles to bring natural texture and flair, whilst the palette of black, gray and white give a continuity of the overall design.
